codeREADr for Android 1.1 Adds GPS Location Tracking To Barcode Scan Data

Enterprise app securely posts device location data to cloud-based servers along with barcode values, user, device and service IDs.

Boston, MA (July 22, 2011): Skycore LLC, a mobile solutions specialist since 2003, introduced today a new version of their Android enterprise barcode scanning app, codeREADr. The update enables the app to include device location along with scanned and manually entered data for tracking access, attendance, events and transactions of contractors, employees, students and assets.

Enterprises can choose to permit location tracking for barcode scanning services they create, which will then record and post the physical location of each scan made.

Scan data can either be synced in real-time to codeREADr’s servers or stored on the device and synced later as a batch file. Administrators can review data directly on http://www.codeREADr.com or export the scan database for further processing.
An optional “Postback URL” service is available for scan data to pass directly from codeREADr’s servers to the enterprises own servers for storage, processing, action and response. Open APIs are available for third-party integration.

Location tracking requires explicit confirmation by the app User. The enterprise issues authentication credentials for each app user. The app user logs in, selects the location based scan service, initiates the scan and confirms the current location on a map presented prior to submitting the scan to the server.
“Our codeREADr apps for iPhone and Blackberry will receive our new location feature in Q3 2011. Our roadmap also includes reading NFC tokens to complement our scanning, search, data entry and location features,” said Rich Eicher, CEO of Skycore LLC.
